➤Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer. Babasaheb is also known as the architect of the Constitution of India. He was born on April 14, 1891 in Mhow (Madhya Pradesh).
➤His real surname was Ambawadekar. But his teacher, Mahadev Ambedkar, gave him Ambedkar surname in the school records. He graduated in Economics and Political Science from Bombay University in 1912 and he.
➤He was the first Indian to get a Doctorate (PHD) degree in Economics from abroad. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar also knew several Indian and international languages. He was appointed as the first Law Minister of independent India. Babasaheb also fought for the equality of untouchables.
➤ He died on 6th December 1956 at his home in Delhi. He was posthumously conferred the prestigious Bharat Ratna award in 1990.
➤He was an revivalist for Buddhism in India, he inspired the Modern Buddhist movement.
➤Born into a poor Mahar family, Ambedkar campaigned against social discrimination, the Indian caste system. He converted to Buddhism and is also credited with providing a spark for the conversion of hundreds of thousands of lower caste members to Buddhism.
➤He is regarded as a Bodhisattva by some Indian Buddhists, though he never claimed it himself.

➤In April 1947 he submitted to the Assembly a draft on “States and Minorities”. The Constituent Assembly, on April 29, 1947 declared that Untouchability in all forms would be abolished in India.
➤His famous book “The Untouchables” in English was published in October 1948. He also worked on modifying the Hindu Law and submitted the Hindu Code Bill to the Constituent Assembly in 1948.
➤Today in India all the temples, public places are open to the depressed classes. Ambedkar attained “Nirvana” on December 6, 1956 and was posthumously awarded “The Bharat Ratna” in the year 1990.
➤He has awarded with 11.50 sterling pound monthly by king of Badoda Mr.Gaikwad,to complete his post graduation in USA.
➤For his growing family He worked as a private tutor, as an accountant, and established an investment consulting business, but it failed when his clients learned that he was an untouchable.
➤In 1936, Ambedkar founded the Independent Labour Party, which contested in the 1937 Bombay election to the Central Legislative Assembly for the 13 reserved and 4 general seats and securing 11 and 3 seats respectively.

➤The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), was based on the ideas that Ambedkar presented to the Hilton Young Commission (also known as Royal Commission on Indian Currency and Finance) based on his book, The Problem of the Rupee – Its Origin and Its Solution.
